Friend 2.0

The Wild Country Friend has been the benchmark for trad climbing protection since it introduced the thumbloop-and-extendable-cord combination that the rest of the industry has spent decades trying to replicate. The Friend 2.0 doesn't reinvent what made it essential — it refines it. The same 13.75° cam angle, hollow double axles, and milled lobes that earned its reputation are all here, now paired with a genuinely improved cord system and a range that finally includes a double-axle size 0.3.

The new Flow Cord is the headline change. The seamless core-mantle construction eliminates the stiff bartacks of the previous generation, letting the sling extend and retract without resistance or snagging. A red wear indicator built into the core takes the guesswork out of retirement timing. For size 4, Wild Country added a central spring-loaded locking mechanism that ensures symmetrical cam closure and keeps the lobes aligned for one-handed placements in wide cracks.

If you're building a rack from scratch or filling gaps in an existing set, the Friend 2.0 is the standard against which everything else is measured. Fourteen-year certified lifespan — ten years of service, four years of storage — and milled aluminum lobes that deliver 8–10% more grip than anodized alternatives.
